Communicating, Negotiating

Christian Grey, Magical Mind Reader

He answers Ana’s unspoken thoughts. He’s always there when she’s in trouble. He seems to know what she wants before she herself knows. I’m calling major bullshit here. I mean, seriously, all that mind reading almost instantly? Totally unrealistic.

After you’ve been with a dom for a while, it can certainly seem sometimes like he’s reading your mind, but really what he’s doing is reading your body language and facial expressions, and going off whatever else he’s learned about you over time: your likes and dislikes, your habits and behavioral patterns. It doesn’t happen instantly, and it doesn’t happen with no effort on your part, either; it takes communication.

And communicating comes to some people much more easily than others. Especially in the beginning, and especially with someone you want to please, it can seem like a Herculean effort saying, “I like this; I don’t like that.” Sitting down with a negotiation list like this one can make things easier, but finding your voice and using your words may be the most important thing in ensuring your short- and long-term happiness.

And one day after your dom has gotten to know you, after you’ve spent some time together and communicated for a while, he may very well seem to be reading your mind sometimes. And you can draw the curtain over the efforts and time that led to it, and just savor those magic moments.

Because they really are magic — even without any ESP or tricks. And they’re worth savoring.

Does your man seem to read your mind? Share your favorite examples in the comments!
